About Gorton
Gorton, known formally as the George Gorton Machine Co., was an American machine tool manufacturer based in Racine, Wisconsin. The company built fine machine tools including pantograph engraving machines, disc grinders, high‑speed heavy‑duty cutting‑off machines and related equipment for shop and production use. Its engraving and cutting machinery equipped machine shops and production environments worldwide, supporting precision engraving and metal cutting operations. Gorton developed a reputation for high-quality, precise machines that helped customers improve productivity. The company later became a division of Kearney & Trecker, and the Racine plant closed in 1974, though many Gorton machines remain in service and are supported through successor organizations and aftermarket parts suppliers.
