About Wittmann
Wittmann was founded in Vienna, Austria in 1976 by Dr. Werner Wittmann, who identified a need for better water flow regulators while working in the plastics industry. Starting from a garage workshop, the company grew into a global plastics equipment group. A pivotal milestone came in April 2008 when Wittmann acquired Battenfeld Kunststoffmaschinen GmbH of Kottingbrunn, Austria, adding injection molding machines to its existing portfolio of robots and auxiliary equipment and forming the Wittmann Group. In 2022 the group consolidated under a single Wittmann brand identity to emphasize its competitive advantage as a complete-solution provider.
Wittmann's injection molding machine lineup spans servo-hydraulic and all-electric configurations from roughly 6 to 2,500 tons of clamping force. Key series include the all-electric EcoPower and EcoPrimus for precision and energy-efficient production, the servo-hydraulic SmartPower for general-purpose molding, the large-tonnage MacroPower, and the all-electric MicroPower for micro-molding applications. Vertical press series such as the VM and VPower R round out the range for insert and multi-component molding. On the auxiliary side, Wittmann produces the Tempro plus D temperature controllers, Drymax and Aton dryers, Feedmax material loaders, Gravimax and Dosimax blenders, and the G-Max and S-Max granulator lines, all designed to communicate natively with the injection molding machine through the Wittmann 4.0 platform.
Wittmann equipment serves a broad range of end markets within plastics processing. Medical device manufacturing is a particularly strong segment, with EcoPower and MicroPower machines used for high-precision, cleanroom-compatible production of components such as diagnostic devices and closures for pharmaceutical packaging. Automotive suppliers rely on SmartPower and MacroPower presses for structural and interior components. Packaging producers use high-speed EcoPower Xpress machines for thin-wall and closure applications, while consumer goods, electronics, and home appliance manufacturers also represent significant customer bases.
Buyers seeking used Wittmann equipment are drawn by the brand's reputation for robust build quality and long service life, which allows machines to maintain consistent cycle times and cavity-filling accuracy well into their second decade of operation. The Wittmann service network remains active globally, and spare parts for the SmartPower and EcoPower series are widely available, reducing downtime risk on pre-owned machines. Energy-efficiency features such as kinetic energy recovery on servo-hydraulic models and all-electric drive systems translate into lower operating costs even on older units. The tight integration between Wittmann presses and their auxiliary equipment also means buyers can expand a used work cell incrementally without replacing the control architecture.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Wittmann known for?
Wittmann is known for manufacturing complete, fully integrated plastics processing work cells from a single source, combining injection molding machines with robots, temperature controllers, dryers, material loaders, blenders, and granulators under one control platform. The group is particularly recognized for its energy-efficient all-electric and servo-hydraulic injection molding machines and its widely installed line of industrial robots for the plastics industry.
What industries use Wittmann injection molding machines?
Wittmann injection molding machines are used across medical device manufacturing, automotive components, packaging, consumer goods, electronics, and home appliance production. The precision and cleanroom-compatible configurations of the EcoPower and MicroPower series make them especially popular in medical and pharmaceutical packaging applications.
Are spare parts and service readily available for used Wittmann machines?
Yes, Wittmann maintains an active global service network, and components for widely sold series such as the SmartPower and EcoPower are broadly available through authorized channels. The standardized control architecture across Wittmann's product range also makes diagnostics and repairs more straightforward, which is a key reason buyers seek out pre-owned Wittmann equipment.
