About Pines

USAEst. 1943

Pines Engineering was founded in 1943 in Aurora, Illinois by Byron Bower, the inventor of the mandrel bending machine, and later relocated to the Cleveland, Ohio area. The company pioneered a long list of industry firsts — the first rotary draw bender for metal furniture, the first fully automatic three-axis CNC bender, the first microprocessor-based bender control, and the first pressure die booster system for the boiler tube industry, among others. In 2013, Pines was acquired by Ajax TOCCO Magnethermic, a subsidiary of ParkOhio, and today operates out of Warren, Ohio, with an additional manufacturing facility in Belgium serving the European market.

The Pines product line centers on rotary draw bending machines for tube, pipe, and bar, available in three main configurations. Manual NC benders — including the long-running Model #1, Model #2, and larger-capacity Model #6 and Model #8 — handle outside diameters up to 10 inches and are controlled by the company's proprietary Dial-A-Bend system. Hybrid CNC benders such as the CNC 040 and the widely used CNC 075 pair a classical hydraulic bending system with electric servo control for the carriage and bend axes, giving shops an economical entry into programmable bending. The all-electric e40 and e75 CNC benders deliver 10-axis programmable motion, automatic tool adjustment, and multi-stack die capability for high-volume, tight-tolerance work. At the heavy end of the range, the CNC 200 and CNC 250 handle large-diameter pipe for boiler and shipbuilding applications. Pines also produces Roto Form extrusion benders for aluminum profiles.

Pines bending machines serve a broad cross-section of manufacturing industries. Automotive and tier-one suppliers rely on Pines tube benders for exhaust systems, chassis components, and fluid lines. Aerospace and defense contractors — including programs such as the V-22 Osprey — use Pines CNC benders for hydraulic and fuel tubing. Additional end markets include HVAC and boiler fabrication, shipbuilding, power generation, military and government facilities, furniture manufacturing, and recreational vehicle production.

Buyers seeking used Pines tube and pipe benders consistently cite the machines' exceptional longevity as the primary reason to purchase on the secondary market. Pines equipment is routinely found in production after 40 or 50 years of service, and the company still supplies OEM spare parts for machines dating to the 1950s. The heavy cast-iron construction, conservative engineering margins, and standardized tooling interfaces mean that a used Pines bender — whether a hydraulic NC model or a CNC 075 — can be returned to full production with straightforward maintenance. Strong parts availability, a well-documented control ecosystem, and a deep base of experienced service technicians make used Pines benders a low-risk, high-value investment for job shops and OEM fabricators alike.
