About Mollart
Mollart Engineering was founded in 1929 by Arthur Mollart and partner J. Hendra in Chessington, Surrey, originally producing precision components for the automotive and aircraft industries. Over the following decades the company evolved into a globally recognized designer and builder of deep hole drilling machine tools, surviving multiple economic cycles and expanding internationally. In 2023 the machine tools business was acquired by InCompass, an American company, and production of Mollart machines subsequently moved to Rockford, Illinois under Bourn & Koch, which now manufactures and supports the full Mollart line as the OEM.
The flagship product lines are the Drillsprint and Omnisprint CNC gun drill series. The Drillsprint — available in light-duty LD and medium-duty MD variants — is a single-axis CNC gun drilling machine configurable with one, two, four, or eight spindles, capable of center-line drilling from 2 mm to 50 mm diameter to depths of 3,000 mm, with static or counter-rotation workholding. The Omnisprint is a three-axis, knee-type CNC gun drill offering X and Y positional axes for off-center hole patterns, available in up to six spindles and suited to mold cooling channels, transmission shafts, and complex prismatic parts. Mollart also produces BTA deep hole drilling machines for larger-diameter boring from 18 mm to 150 mm, and multi-spindle pellet die gundrilling centers for the food and biomass industries.
Mollart gun drills serve a broad range of precision-critical end markets. The Drillsprint series is a staple in firearms barrel manufacturing, aerospace structural components, and automotive driveline production. The Omnisprint is widely used in mold and die shops, medical device manufacturing, and automotive transmission component machining. Other served sectors include oil and gas, nuclear, defense, semiconductor equipment, and telecommunications hardware — industries where tight-tolerance deep holes in exotic alloys are non-negotiable.
Buyers seeking used Mollart gun drills on the secondary market are drawn primarily to the machines' robust mechanical construction, long service life, and the continued availability of OEM parts and support through Bourn & Koch. Fanuc CNC controls fitted to most Drillsprint and Omnisprint machines make sourcing replacement electronics straightforward, and the machines hold their calibration well over decades of production use. The combination of multi-spindle productivity, a wide diameter-to-depth capability range, and a strong support infrastructure makes a used Mollart gun drill an attractive, cost-effective alternative to new capital equipment.
