About Berstorff
Hermann Berstorff Maschinenbau was founded in 1820 in Hannover, Germany and became one of the world''s leading manufacturers of compounding extrusion equipment. In 2002 Berstorff was acquired by KraussMaffei and operates today as part of the KraussMaffei Berstorff extrusion division. Berstorff is best known for the ZE series of co-rotating twin-screw compounding extruders, available in screw diameters from 25mm (ZE 25) up to 250mm (ZE 250) and beyond, used for engineering plastics compounding, color and additive masterbatches, glass-fiber reinforced compounds, TPE compounding, reactive extrusion, and devolatilization. Berstorff also builds rubber processing extruders and tire industry equipment, single-screw extruders for pipe and profile, and complete compounding line solutions. The ZE series uses a modular barrel and screw design that allows operators to reconfigure the extruder for different recipes by swapping screw elements - a major reason these machines are so popular on the used market for compounders running multiple products. Used Berstorff and KraussMaffei Berstorff ZE extruders are highly desirable because of robust German construction, modular flexibility, excellent torque density, and good long-term parts availability through KraussMaffei. Common inspection points include barrel bore wear and lining condition, screw element wear, gearbox condition, side feeder and pelletizer integration, control system function (Siemens or B&R), and overall maintenance and product-change records.
