About Omax
Omax Corporation was founded in 1993 in Kent, Washington, by Dr. John Cheung and Dr. John Olsen, two leading experts in waterjet technology. The company was established to commercialize a new motion control technology that made abrasive waterjet machining more precise, affordable, and accessible than ever before. An early breakthrough came with the JetMachining Center Model 2448, and by securing pivotal patents in 1995, Omax cemented its position as a leader in machine tool motion control. By its 25th anniversary in 2018, the company had generated over one billion dollars in revenue and sold more than 5,000 waterjets to manufacturers in 65 countries. In 2019, Omax joined Hypertherm Associates, a 100% employee-owned industrial cutting solutions company.
Omax offers a full spectrum of abrasive waterjet machine tools across five distinct product lines. The flagship Omax JetMachining Centers, including popular models such as the 2626, 2652, 55100, and 60120, cover a wide range of table sizes for precision production work. The OptiMAX series represents the pinnacle of the lineup, designed for maximum uptime and the highest cutting accuracy in demanding manufacturing environments. The Maxiem series delivers strong performance at an accessible price point, making it a shop favorite for high-mix production. The GlobalMAX line targets facilities adding basic waterjet capability, while the compact ProtoMAX is a self-contained system suited for prototyping, small job shops, and educational settings. All systems are designed, manufactured, assembled, and tested at the company's Kent, Washington campus.
Omax waterjet systems serve a broad range of end-market industries. Aerospace manufacturers rely on them for cutting turbine blades, aluminum skins, structural components, and nacelle parts from materials including titanium and composites. Automotive fabricators, metal service centers, architectural and artistic fabricators, defense contractors, stone and tile shops, and medical device manufacturers all use Omax machines. The technology's ability to cut virtually any material — metals, composites, glass, plastics, stone, and ceramics — without creating heat-affected zones makes it valuable across industries where material integrity is critical.
Used Omax waterjet systems are in strong demand on the secondary market for several compelling reasons. The machines are built to exceptionally high standards at a single U.S. facility, and their robust construction means well-maintained units continue to deliver precise, repeatable cuts for many years. Omax's direct-drive EnduroMAX pump technology reduces maintenance intervals and operating costs compared to traditional hydraulic intensifier systems, preserving machine value over time. OEM replacement parts remain readily available, and the Intelli-MAX software platform is field-upgradeable, allowing older machines to benefit from current cutting model improvements. Omax itself operates a factory-certified pre-owned program, a testament to the long service life and continued reliability of its equipment.
