About Trumpf

GermanyEst. 1923

Trumpf was founded in 1923 when Christian Trumpf acquired the mechanical workshops of Julius Geiger GmbH in Stuttgart, Germany. The company initially produced flexible shafts for dental and printing applications before pivoting to sheet metal tooling in the 1950s. A defining moment came in 1968 when Trumpf introduced the Trumatic 20, the first sheet metal processing machine with numerical continuous-path control, which caused a sensation at the European Machine Tool Exhibition in Paris. In 1979 the company entered laser technology with the Trumatic 180 combination punch-laser machine, and by 1985 had developed its own CO2 laser resonator. Trumpf relocated its headquarters to Ditzingen, near Stuttgart, in 1972, where it remains today.

The machine tool division behind the equipment most commonly found on the used market spans three core product families. The Trumatic and TruPunch series of CNC turret punch presses handle punching, forming, embossing, louvering, and high-speed hole production in sheet metal, with automation options such as the SheetMaster for integrated material handling. The Trumatic L-series and TruLaser flatbed laser cutters use flying-optics CO2 technology to cut structural steel, stainless, and aluminum with high positioning speeds and dual-pallet configurations for continuous production. The TrumaBend V-series hydraulic CNC press brakes, first introduced at the 1993 EMO show in Hanover, and the later TruBend series in both hydraulic and electric configurations, round out the sheet metal process chain from blanking through to finished formed parts.

Trumpf fabricating equipment serves a broad range of end markets. Sheet metal job shops, electrical enclosure and switchgear manufacturers, HVAC and building products fabricators, automotive and tier-one suppliers, aerospace component producers, and medical device manufacturers all rely on Trumpf laser cutters, punch presses, and press brakes for high-mix, precision sheet metal work. The machines are equally at home in high-volume production environments and in flexible job-shop settings where frequent changeovers are required.

Buyers seeking used Trumpf laser cutters, turret punch presses, and press brakes consistently cite the brand's exceptional build quality, long service life, and strong parts and tooling availability as primary reasons for choosing older Trumpf iron over newer competing equipment. Trumpf machines are engineered to tight tolerances and tend to hold their accuracy well into their second and third decades of service. The widespread Trumpf dealer and service network means replacement parts, tooling, and technical support remain accessible for legacy Trumatic, TrumaBend, and Trumatic L-series machines, making the total cost of ownership on the used market highly competitive.
