About Hydra-Tool
Hydra-Tool is the company behind HTC hydraulic shears and related fab equipment. Nameplates from the line read HTC Shears, Hydra-Tool, and list both Topeka, Kansas and Greenwood, Mississippi.
The firm was active through the 1970s and 1980s. In 1977 a Hydra-Tool subsidiary bought a Wisconsin press-brake line and moved that work to Greenwood. Training for the Greenwood plant was run out of Topeka, which is why both cities appear on the plates.
The machines that trade used are hydraulic squaring shears, especially the 250 series (about 1/4 inch) and the 500 series (about 1/2 inch), plus press brakes and ironworkers. A model such as 500-10AHC is capacity, length, and variant: 500 for the half-inch class, 10 for a 10-foot knife.
On a used HTC shear, read the capacity block on the plate rather than guessing from the model alone. The plate states mild-steel thickness at a given rake. Also check whether a power backgauge, squaring arm, and front supports are still on the machine.
These are older hydraulic machines. Parts are no longer an OEM catalog item, so blade condition, the hydraulic unit, and a clean test cut matter more than the badge.
