About Waterjet Corporation

ItalyEst. 1991

Waterjet Corporation was founded in 1991 in Italy by mechanical engineer Salvatore Russo as a designer and builder of CNC high-pressure water jet cutting systems. Massimo Russo joined in 1994, driving the international expansion of the business, and between 1997 and 2003 the company acquired three production facilities in Monza covering assembly, showroom, and R&D. A second division launched in 2003 with the Waterstone and Hydrofinish lines for high-flow surface treatment of stone. From 2006 to 2011 Waterjet ran a five-year Chicago joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation Machinery, producing and distributing over 200 private-label Italian-built machines in the United States, and in 2012 opened its own Waterjet USA branch in Geneva, Illinois. A fourth division added the Gourmet line for high-pressure food processing in 2022. The company today runs roughly 12 million euro in annual revenue with more than 50 employees and over 30 machine types.

The Suprema DX is the flagship large-format gantry series and the line most often seen on the secondary market. It uses a reinforced machined tubular steel bridge, a separate stainless steel catch tank, and ball screw transmission with automatic lubrication, in 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC configurations. Suprema machines carry the patented I.T.C. Intelligent Taper Control system along with touch probe and anti-collision devices. The DX suffix designates the standard table envelope: DX 44 at 1,250 x 1,250 mm through DX 510 (3,350 x 1,600 mm), DX 612 (4,000 x 2,000 mm), DX 812 (4,000 x 2,500 mm), DX 1020 (6,100 x 3,350 mm), and up to DX 1340 at 12,200 x 4,000 mm. The largest Suprema DX 1340 installed in North America went to Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine, with a 50-foot table and lathe attachment for tubular indexing, holding accuracy of roughly 0.002 in.

Beyond Suprema, the waterjet catalog runs from entry-level and mid-range tables such as Prima, Pratica, Waterline, Classica, Ram, and Triblade to the twin-gantry Suprema DXD and fully custom large machines up to 11 by 40 feet, plus the Plasmajet plasma cutting platform. The Hydrofinish division covers Waterstone, Brushstone, Scratchstone, Flamestone, and Hydrojet stone finishing systems, and the Gourmet division covers UNiKA, Delicia, Magnifica, and Optima food processing machines. In November 2020 the company launched four all-electric and hybrid intensifier servo pumps, followed by a dedicated W-Power pump assembly and test facility in 2021.

For used buyers, the practical advantage is that Waterjet machines are built around widely available high-end components: Bosch Rexroth ball screw motion systems, standard CAD-CAM platforms including Lantek, and either Waterjet-branded servo pumps or third-party KMT Streamline intensifier pumps rated to 60,000 and 90,000 psi. That means the ultra-high-pressure pump is serviced and sourced independently of the cutting table, so pump hours and intensifier rebuild history should be evaluated as a separate line item from the machine itself. Waterjet USA LLC in Geneva, Illinois supports the North American installed base directly. Note that units sold in the US between 2006 and 2011 may be badged under the Mitsubishi private-label arrangement rather than the Waterjet name.
