About Colortronic

GermanyEst. 1972

Colortronic traces its origins to 1972, when the Colortronic micro dosing and mixing unit with a proprietary disc technology was introduced to the plastics processing market. The brand grew rapidly as a specialist in peripheral equipment for injection molding and extrusion, operating from its base in Friedrichsdorf, Germany. Between 1992 and 1995 the company developed further under K-Tron, and in 2000 Colortronic International AG was established in Hunzenschwil, Switzerland to support worldwide distribution. In 2006 motan holding gmbh acquired Colortronic International AG, and by 2009 the brands had fully merged into what is today known as motan-colortronic.

Colortronic's most recognized product lines are its CTT series dehumidified air dryers and its M series granulators. The CTT dryers span a wide capacity range and are designed for climate- and air-independent drying of thermoplastic granulate and regrind before processing, removing both surface and internal moisture. Multi-hopper configurations such as the CTT 150 dual-hopper allow processors to dry different materials simultaneously from a single dryer unit. The M series granulators, including the low-profile M80 beside-the-press model and the widely used M253 low-speed granulator, are engineered for quiet, low-dust size reduction of sprues, runners, and edge trim directly at the molding machine.

Colortronic equipment serves a broad cross-section of the plastics processing industry. Core end markets include injection molding operations producing automotive components, medical devices, consumer packaging, and technical parts. Extrusion and compounding facilities also rely on Colortronic dryers to condition hygroscopic resins such as nylon, PET, and ABS before processing. The brand's compact, machine-side footprint made it especially popular in high-mix, short-run environments where floor space and quick material changeovers are priorities.

Buyers seeking used Colortronic equipment are drawn to the brand's straightforward mechanical design, which makes maintenance and blade replacement accessible without specialized tooling. The CTT dryer series is known for consistent dewpoint performance and long service life, and replacement desiccant cells and spare parts have remained available through the motan-colortronic network. M series granulators hold their value well on the secondary market because of their robust stainless steel construction and the wide availability of aftermarket knife blades. These qualities make used Colortronic dryers and granulators a cost-effective choice for processors looking to expand capacity without the lead times of new equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Colortronic best known for?

Colortronic is best known for its CTT series dehumidified air dryers and M series beside-the-press granulators, both designed for use in injection molding and extrusion environments. The brand built a strong reputation for compact, reliable ancillary equipment that conditions and reclaims plastic materials directly at the processing machine.

Where was Colortronic manufactured?

Colortronic equipment was manufactured in Friedrichsdorf, Germany, where Colortronic GmbH operated its development and production facilities at Otto-Hahn-Strasse 10-14. The brand later merged with motan to form the motan-colortronic group, which continues production at sites in Germany, India, and China.

Are parts still available for used Colortronic dryers and granulators?

Yes, spare parts for Colortronic CTT dryers and M series granulators remain available through the motan-colortronic service network, which maintains regional parts inventories. Aftermarket suppliers also produce replacement knife blades for popular granulator models such as the M253, making ongoing maintenance straightforward for used equipment owners.
