About Cotterman
Cotterman Company was established in 1925 as I.D. Cotterman Company in Chicago, Illinois, where its original product was rolling wood track ladders. In the mid-1940s the company introduced the rolling steel warehouse ladder, a form of rolling staircase engineered to give workers safe access to out-of-reach areas in industrial and commercial environments. The Cotterman family sold the business in 1979 to Material Control, Inc., and operations were relocated to Croswell, Michigan, which remains the corporate headquarters and largest production facility today. Additional manufacturing plants in Arlington, Texas, Atlanta, Georgia, and Bakersfield, California allow the company to serve customers across the country with shorter lead times and lower freight costs.
Cotterman's rolling metal ladder lineup is the core of its business. The Series 1000 is the flagship line, shipped fully assembled and ready to climb, built from all-welded 1-inch steel tube construction with a 450-lb. load rating. The Series 1200, Series 1500, and Series 1700 extend the range with different climb angles and shipping configurations, while the Series 6500 Roll-N-Fold offers a portable, foldable option for facilities that need to move or store ladders frequently. At the heavy-duty end, the Workmaster Super-Duty rolling ladder carries a 1,000-lb. load capacity. Beyond rolling ladders, Cotterman produces welded steel work platforms, step stands and stools, the StockNStore folding ladder for retail environments, the MasterStep office ladder series, crossover bridges, fixed ladders, track ladders, and self-closing safety gates.
Cotterman ladders are found across a wide range of end markets, including warehousing and distribution, manufacturing plants, retail and big-box stores, MRO operations, food and beverage processing, aerospace facilities, and automotive assembly. The combination of OSHA- and ANSI-compliant construction, multiple tread options, and a broad step-count range makes Cotterman equipment adaptable to nearly any facility access requirement.
Buyers seeking used Cotterman rolling ladders and work platforms on the secondary market are drawn to the brand's reputation for all-welded steel construction, powder-coat finishes that resist corrosion, and a parts catalog that supports long service lives. Because Cotterman builds every ladder to order and maintains genuine replacement parts, pre-owned units remain easy to service and reconfigure. The heavy-gauge steel frames hold up well to daily warehouse use, meaning a used Cotterman rolling ladder typically retains both its structural integrity and its resale value far longer than lighter-duty alternatives.
