Negri Bossi was founded in 1947 in Cologno Monzese, on the edge of Milan, and became the leading injection molding machine manufacturer in Italy over more than seventy years of production. The company built a particular reputation in ultra-large machines and in customized molding systems for the automotive sector. Before its current ownership it sat under the American holding company Kingsbury Corp.

On November 21, 2019 Kingsbury agreed to sell a majority stake to Nissei Plastic Industrial of Japan, initially 75 percent with the remaining 25 percent to follow within a few years, and the transaction closed in January 2020. The deal was complementary rather than consolidating: Nissei's own range topped out around 1,300 tonnes, so Negri Bossi's ultra-large machines extended the combined lineup considerably, while Nissei gained European market presence and Negri Bossi gained a large industrial parent with a global parts and service network. Group consolidated sales were projected at roughly 50 billion yen, about 420 million euros. Negri Bossi retained its name, its people, and its machine lines, and integration of production standardization and technology transfer across the group began in earnest around mid-2022. The acquisition also brought Sytrama, Negri Bossi's takeout robot and automation subsidiary, into the Nissei group, and large injection molding machines are now assembled both at Negri Bossi's Italian plants and at Nissei's Texas facility.

The product range runs from roughly 70 tonnes at the small end through the Canbio S2 servo-hydraulic toggle machines, the Vector all-electric series for precision and clean-room applications, the Nova and Eos lines, and up to the BiPower ultra-large two-platen series spanning approximately 1,300 to 7,000 tonnes - the machines used for automotive bumpers, instrument panels, door panels, pallets, and large industrial containers. Control systems have evolved through several generations, with the Amico and Motus interfaces being the ones most often encountered on machines currently reaching the secondary market.

Used Negri Bossi machines are sought after for robust Italian construction, generous platen dimensions and tie-bar spacing relative to the tonnage class, and energy-efficient drive systems. The large BiPower machines in particular are worth attention on the used market, because very few builders make presses in that tonnage range and buying used is often the only realistic path to that capacity. Inspect screw and barrel wear, toggle linkage condition and platen parallelism on Canbio machines, servo drive and motor condition on Vector all-electrics, and two-platen lock and tie-bar condition on BiPower and Janus machines. Verify the control generation and software version before purchase, since post-2022 group standardization means support paths differ by vintage.
