About Newbury
Newbury Industries was founded in 1957 in Newbury, Ohio by Glenn H. Frohring, who consolidated three family-owned machining and plastics equipment firms into a single company focused on vertical injection molding technology. The brand grew steadily over the following decades to become the most widely installed vertical injection molder manufacturer in the United States. In 1993 Glenn H. Frohring sold the company to Heico Acquisitions, after which it passed to Van Dorn Demag Corp. and ultimately became part of Sumitomo Demag, which continues to support the installed base.
The core of the Newbury product line is its vertical injection molding series, spanning 30 to 400 tons of clamping force in both C-frame and four-tiebar configurations. Shuttle-table models — where two lower platens alternate under a fixed upper clamp — are among the most sought-after Newbury designs, allowing operators to load inserts into one station while the other is under clamp. The line also included rotary-table presses for multi-station insert molding and the compact MiniJector and Eldorado reciprocating-screw models for smaller-shot applications. All machines were hydraulically actuated and built for high-cycle insert and overmolding work.
Newbury vertical injection molding machines found their widest adoption in industries that depend on insert molding and overmolding: electrical and electronics manufacturing (terminal blocks, connectors, wiring harnesses), automotive components (sensors, cord sets, and assemblies), medical device production (catheters, surgical tools, and instrument connections), and aerospace (ceramic core encapsulation for airfoil technology). The open vertical clamp design makes it straightforward to load metal, ceramic, or fabric inserts by hand or with automation before each shot.
Buyers seeking used Newbury vertical injection molding machines are drawn to the brand's reputation for mechanical simplicity and longevity — these hydraulic presses are known to run reliably for decades with routine maintenance. The straightforward toggle and C-frame clamp designs are easy to service, and a large installed base across North America means replacement parts and knowledgeable technicians remain accessible. For insert molders and overmolders looking to add capacity without the capital cost of new equipment, a used Newbury shuttle or vertical press offers proven performance at a fraction of the price of a comparable new machine.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Newbury best known for in injection molding?
Newbury is best known for its vertical injection molding machines, particularly shuttle-table and C-frame insert molding presses ranging from 30 to 400 tons. At their peak, Newbury machines had more installations in U.S. molding plants than those of any other vertical injection molder manufacturer.
Who makes Newbury injection molding machines today?
Newbury Industries was founded in Ohio in 1957, acquired by Heico Acquisitions in 1993, and subsequently became part of Van Dorn Demag and then Sumitomo Demag. Sumitomo Demag is the current corporate successor responsible for supporting the Newbury brand's installed base.
What industries commonly use used Newbury vertical injection molding machines?
Used Newbury vertical injection molding machines are widely used in electrical and electronics manufacturing, automotive component production, medical device manufacturing, and aerospace applications. Their open vertical clamp design makes them especially well suited for insert molding and overmolding operations where operators or automation need easy access to load inserts before each shot.
