About Niigata
Niigata traces its origins to 1895 in Niigata City, Japan, where it began as a machinery manufacturer before expanding into injection molding in 1963 through a partnership with German firm Stube. The company became an early innovator in electric press technology, introducing its first all-electric injection molding machine in 1984 — well ahead of most competitors. In 2023, the injection molding division was spun off and reestablished as Niigata Machinery Co., Ltd. under the ownership of Haitian International Holdings, while continuing to engineer and assemble all machines in Japan with Japanese drives, motors, and controls.
Niigata's flagship product lines are its MD series all-electric horizontal injection molding machines and its MDV and MDVR series all-electric vertical injection molding machines. The MD series spans a wide clamping force range and has evolved through multiple generations — including the S-III, S-IV, S7000, and current S8000 platforms — each adding improvements in toggle-clamp speed, platen rigidity, controller interface, and energy monitoring. The MDV and MDVR vertical series, introduced in 1997, are notable for being the world's first all-electric vertical injection molding machines with a rotary table, making them especially well suited for insert molding and overmolding applications.
Niigata injection molding machines serve a broad range of end markets that demand tight tolerances and repeatable cycle performance. Medical device manufacturers rely on the all-electric MD and MDVR platforms for clean, oil-free operation and shot-to-shot consistency. Automotive and electronics molders value the machines' fast injection rates and precise clamping control for complex, thin-walled components. Packaging producers and consumer goods manufacturers also run Niigata presses where high output and dimensional accuracy are priorities.
Buyers seeking used Niigata injection molding machines are drawn to the brand's reputation for mechanical durability and long service intervals — a reflection of the all-Japanese drivetrain and build quality that has defined the MD series for decades. Replacement parts remain available through established North American service channels, and the machines' straightforward servo-electric architecture makes maintenance predictable. The combination of low energy consumption, strong resale value, and a proven multi-generational platform makes used Niigata horizontal and vertical injection molding machines a practical choice for molders looking to expand capacity without the lead times of new equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Niigata best known for in injection molding?
Niigata is best known for its all-electric injection molding machines, a technology the company pioneered as early as 1984. Its MD series horizontal and MDV series vertical presses are recognized for precision, energy efficiency, and exceptional longevity, with some customers reporting machines still in production service after more than 30 years.
What is the difference between Niigata's MD series and MDV series machines?
The Niigata MD series are horizontal all-electric injection molding machines covering a wide tonnage range, designed for general-purpose and high-volume molding applications. The MDV and MDVR series are vertical all-electric machines featuring a rotary table — the first of their kind — making them particularly suited for insert molding, overmolding, and cable or connector applications where parts must be loaded into an open mold from above.
Are parts and service available for used Niigata injection molding machines?
Yes. Niigata's North American service and parts support has been handled through established channels for decades, most recently transitioning to Absolute Haitian Corporation in 2025 for the U.S. and Canada. The all-electric MD and MDVR platforms use Japanese-sourced servo drives and controls, and replacement components remain available, which is one reason used Niigata machines hold their value well on the secondary market.
