About Minster

USAEst. 1896

The Minster Machine Company was founded in 1896 in Minster, Ohio, by Anton Herkenhoff and Joseph Dues as the Dues and Herkenhoff Machine Works. After Dues sold his share, Herkenhoff renamed the business The Minster Machine Company, which was officially incorporated in 1901. The company built its first mechanical press in 1926 and its first straight side press in 1927, establishing a trajectory that would make it one of the world's foremost press manufacturers. In 2012, Minster was acquired by Nidec-Shimpo Corporation, a subsidiary of Japan's Nidec Corporation, and now operates globally as Nidec Minster Corporation.

Minster's flagship product lines center on straight side mechanical presses built for demanding progressive die and high-speed stamping work. The E2 Hevi-Stamper series, introduced in 1959, is a heavy-duty fabricated press engineered for high-speed geared drive applications and is available in capacities ranging from 200 to 1,600 tons. The updated E2H Hevi-Stamper is configured for today's higher-tensile stamping requirements, offering increased energy output, larger upright openings, and reduced deflection. The P2 Piece-Maker and P2H series round out the straight side lineup, designed for universal stamping applications from flat blanking to forming and drawing, with hydraulic overload protection and motorized shut-height adjustment.

Minster presses serve a broad range of end-market industries that depend on high-volume precision metal forming. Automotive stamping — from structural components to motor laminations — has long been a core application, alongside appliance manufacturing, electrical components, packaging and container production, and electronics connector stamping. The company's equipment is used in production facilities across nearly 90 countries, reflecting the global reach of the industries it supports.

Buyers consistently seek used Minster straight side presses because the machines are built to last decades in demanding production environments. The E2 Hevi-Stamper quickly developed a reputation for quality, durability, and strong resale value after its introduction, and that reputation has held across generations of the press. Parts availability is supported by Minster's ongoing manufacturing and service network, and the robust fabricated frames of the E2 and P2 series mean that well-maintained machines can be rebuilt and returned to full production capacity, making used Minster presses a cost-effective alternative to new equipment without sacrificing precision or uptime.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Minster best known for manufacturing?

Minster is best known for its precision straight side mechanical stamping presses, particularly the E2 Hevi-Stamper and P2 Piece-Maker series. These presses are widely regarded as industry standards for heavy progressive die work, high-speed metal forming, and demanding fabrication applications.

What industries use Minster straight side presses?

Minster straight side presses are used across automotive, appliance, electrical motor lamination, packaging, and electronics connector stamping industries. Their combination of high tonnage capacity and precision makes them a preferred choice wherever high-volume, repeatable metal forming is required.

Why do buyers choose used Minster presses over other brands?

Used Minster presses are sought after because of their well-documented durability, strong resale value, and the availability of factory parts and service support through Nidec Minster's global network. The heavy fabricated construction of the E2 Hevi-Stamper series in particular means machines can run for decades and be fully rebuilt, delivering reliable production performance at a fraction of new-equipment cost.
