About Persico

ItalyEst. 1976

Founded in 1976 in Nembro, in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, Persico began as a wood-moulding factory before evolving into a multinational engineering group. The company's Industrial division — responsible for its rotational molding machinery — built its reputation by introducing the world's first standard, fully automated rotomolding machine, the Leonardo, and has since installed systems for customers across Europe, North America, Asia, and beyond. Founder Pierino Persico was awarded the Rotational Moulding Hall of Fame honor by the Association of Rotational Molders International, the first Italian recipient of that distinction.

The cornerstone of Persico's rotational molding machinery lineup is the Leonardo platform, which uses Direct Tool Heating (DTH) technology to apply heat directly to the mold surface rather than heating an entire oven chamber. The Leonardo Super series handles large-format molds — the LM-0-20/20 configuration, for example, accommodates molds up to 2,000 x 2,000 mm and mold weights up to 2,000 kg with Siemens controls. The Leonardo Smart series refines the concept into a compact, self-contained production cell with up to 48 independent electric heating zones, continuous internal temperature and pressure monitoring, and optional interchangeable tooling frames for maximum uptime. Both oil DTH and fully electric DTH variants have been offered across the Leonardo range, giving buyers flexibility in energy source and process requirements.

Persico rotational molding machines serve end markets where hollow, seamless thermoplastic parts must meet demanding dimensional and structural standards. Key industries include automotive and commercial vehicle manufacturing — fuel tanks, fenders, and interior components — as well as agriculture, construction equipment, trucks and buses, railways, aerospace, and marine applications. The machines process polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, and a broad range of engineered and bio-based polymers, making them equally suited to high-volume production runs and technically complex, lower-volume specialty parts.

Buyers seeking used Persico rotational molding machines are drawn by the platform's combination of robust Italian engineering, Siemens-based controls with readily available support, and the significant capital savings versus new equipment. Because Leonardo and Smart machines are self-contained cells that require no separate oven infrastructure, they are straightforward to relocate and recommission. The machines' closed-loop process control and full cycle traceability mean that a well-maintained used unit can deliver the same part consistency as a new one, making pre-owned Persico equipment an attractive entry point for rotomolders looking to automate or expand capacity without the lead time of a new-machine order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Persico best known for in rotational molding?

Persico is recognized as the first manufacturer to offer a standard, fully automated rotational molding machine — the Leonardo — which uses Direct Tool Heating to apply heat directly to the mold rather than heating a large oven chamber. This approach delivers significant energy savings, tighter part tolerances, and a much smaller production footprint compared with conventional carousel machines.

What is the difference between the Persico Leonardo Super and the Leonardo Smart?

The Leonardo Super is designed for large-format, high-payload molds — configurations like the LM-0-20/20 handle molds up to 2,000 x 2,000 mm and weights up to 2,000 kg. The Leonardo Smart is a more compact, self-contained production cell featuring up to 48 independent electric heating zones, internal atmosphere control, and optional interchangeable tooling frames, making it well suited to medium-volume production of technically complex parts.

What industries use Persico rotational molding machines?

Persico rotational molding machines are widely used in automotive and commercial vehicle manufacturing, agriculture, construction equipment, trucks and buses, railways, aerospace, and marine applications. The machines process a broad range of thermoplastics — including polyethylene, polypropylene, and engineered resins — to produce hollow, seamless parts such as fuel tanks, fenders, fluid reservoirs, and structural components.
