About Baker
Baker traces its roots to the Baker Motor Vehicle Company, founded in 1898 in Cleveland, Ohio, as a pioneer in electric vehicle technology. As demand for electric cars waned, the company pivoted to industrial material handling, eventually merging with Rauch and Lang to form Baker-Raulang. After a series of corporate transitions that included acquisition by Otis Elevator Company in 1953, the Baker division was sold to German lift truck manufacturer Linde AG in 1977, at which point the Baker brand was gradually absorbed into the Linde product family.
Baker built a broad range of counterbalanced forklifts in both electric and internal combustion configurations. The FJF series featured LP gas and gasoline engines with torque converter transmissions, while the FTD and FID series were purpose-built electric forklifts with solid rubber tires suited to indoor industrial environments. The FMD series offered LP gas power in a versatile cushion-tire platform, and the later B-series trucks — including pneumatic-tire diesel models like the B50PD and B130PD — reflected Linde-era engineering. Lift capacities across the lineup ranged from 2,000 to well over 13,000 pounds.
