About HPM
HPM Corporation (originally Hydraulic Press Manufacturing Company) was founded in 1877 in Mount Gilead, Ohio and for over a century was one of the most prolific American manufacturers of injection molding machines, hydraulic presses, structural foam molding presses, and reaction injection molding (RIM) equipment. Although HPM ceased manufacturing operations in 2008, the installed base of HPM machines across the United States remains enormous - tens of thousands of HPM injection molding presses are still in productive service in automotive, appliance, industrial container, and structural foam applications. Popular HPM injection molding lines include the TFR series two-platen large-tonnage hydraulic presses, the Vector toggle line, the MK series mid-range hydraulic toggle machines, the Pacer series, and a wide range of horizontal and vertical hydraulic presses from 50 to 4,000+ tons. HPM also manufactured large structural foam molding presses (still common in industrial pallet, refuse container, and large enclosure production) and dedicated RIM machines. Used HPM equipment is highly common and very affordable on the secondary market because of the huge installed base, and aftermarket parts and service support is provided by several specialist firms (including former HPM employees who continue to support the brand). Common inspection points on used HPM machines include hydraulic system condition (pumps, valves, cylinders, reservoir contamination), screw and barrel wear, tie-bar and platen wear (TFR two-platen machines), control system status (often retrofitted with newer PLCs and HMIs), and overall sheet-metal and frame condition.

Frequently Asked Questions About Used HPM Equipment
What did HPM make?
HPM Corporation manufactured injection molding machines (TFR two-platen, Vector toggle, MK hydraulic toggle, Pacer, and standard hydraulic series from 50 to 4,000+ tons), structural foam molding presses, reaction injection molding (RIM) machines, and general industrial hydraulic presses from its Mount Gilead, Ohio plant from 1877 until manufacturing ceased in 2008.
Is HPM still in business?
HPM Corporation ceased manufacturing in 2008, but the brand''s massive installed base across U.S. molding plants is still in heavy productive use. Aftermarket parts, service, control retrofits, and rebuilds are supported by several specialist firms - including former HPM engineers and technicians - that focus exclusively on the HPM installed base.
Why buy a used HPM injection molding machine?
Used HPM machines are extremely affordable because of the very large installed base, and they remain practical workhorses for many molding applications - especially structural foam, large-part hydraulic, and two-platen TFR work - where the rugged construction continues to deliver decades of service. Many shops retrofit modern PLCs/HMIs to extend useful life by another 10-20 years.
What should I inspect on a used HPM machine?
Inspect the hydraulic system carefully (pumps, valves, cylinder seals, reservoir contamination, oil analysis), screw and barrel wear, tie-bar and platen wear (especially on TFR two-platen machines), control system status (original HPM controls vs. retrofit PLC/HMI), heater bands and thermocouples, and overall frame and sheet-metal condition.
What are the most popular HPM models on the used market?
Common used HPM models include the TFR two-platen large-tonnage hydraulic presses (popular in automotive bumper, large appliance, and industrial pallet molding), the Vector toggle line, the MK hydraulic toggle series, the Pacer series, vertical hydraulic presses for insert molding, and large structural foam presses for industrial pallets and totes.
