About ICMA San Giorgio
ICMA San Giorgio (Industria Costruzione Macchine ed Affini S.p.A.) was established in 1945 in San Giorgio su Legnano, near Milan, by the Colombo family, whose foundry business dated back to 1907. The company first built woodworking machinery and high-precision machine tools before turning to the emerging plastics industry in the 1960s, when it designed its first patented twin-screw extruders.
In the 1970s ICMA became known internationally for direct extrusion of composite sheet, notably polypropylene and wood-flour sheet adopted by automakers for interior components. From the 1980s the company concentrated on co-rotating twin-screw extruders for technical compounds, thermoplastic rubber and masterbatch, and later expanded into reactive compounding, bio-compounds, recycling, PET, WPC and multi-layer sheet.
Today ICMA's core product is the modular MCM co-rotating twin-screw extruder, built in screw diameters from 18 mm up to 220 mm, with nitrided barrels in a range of L/D ratios. ICMA also supplies complete turnkey lines: raw-material handling and gravimetric feeding, the extruder, flat dies, calender stacks, and downstream cooling, trimming, cutting and stacking. Its direct-extrusion lines compound and extrude sheet in a single melt pass, eliminating the pelletizing step.
When buying a used ICMA extruder or line, confirm the screw diameter and L/D (encoded in the MCM model, for example MCM 112-40D), the screw element and barrel configuration, gearbox condition, main motor and drive rating, and the electrical supply (Italian-built machines are often 50 Hz). For complete lines, check that feeders, die, calender drives, control panels and PLC are all present and that wiring was labeled at de-installation.
ICMA remains an active manufacturer and keeps an inventory of screw elements, barrel sections and gearbox components, and offers commissioning and process support, so parts and service for MCM extruders are still available.
Meadoworks lists used ICMA San Giorgio extruders and complete extrusion lines from plants across North and Latin America, with photos and specifications gathered directly from the current owners.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the ICMA MCM model number mean?
MCM is ICMA's co-rotating twin-screw extruder family. The number is the screw diameter in millimeters and the suffix is the L/D ratio, so an MCM 112-40D has 112 mm screws with a 40:1 length-to-diameter ratio.
Is ICMA San Giorgio still in business?
Yes. ICMA San Giorgio is an active manufacturer based near Milan, Italy, and continues to build MCM extruders and complete compounding and direct-extrusion systems.
Can I still get parts and service for a used ICMA extruder?
ICMA stocks screw elements, barrel sections and gearbox components and offers commissioning and process support, so spare parts and service remain available for MCM extruders.
What should I check before buying a used ICMA extrusion line?
Verify screw and barrel wear, the screw configuration, gearbox condition, motor and drive ratings, and the electrical supply voltage and frequency. For complete lines, confirm the die, calender, feeders, panels and PLC are all included.
What is a direct extrusion line?
A direct extrusion line uses a co-rotating twin-screw extruder to compound raw materials and feed a flat sheet die in one pass, eliminating the separate pelletizing and re-melting steps.
