Startrite Engineering Co. Ltd. was established around 1950 in Gillingham, Kent, England, where it operated out of the Gad Hill factory before later relocating production to a facility in Rochester, Kent. The company built its name manufacturing a broad range of industrial sawing machinery and related equipment for both the trade and light industrial markets. In March 1995 Startrite was acquired by the British machine-tool conglomerate 600 Group, and the brand subsequently passed to Record Power, which recognized Startrite as its industrial heritage division.

The heart of the Startrite lineup was its H-series horizontal band saws, a family of metal-cutting machines that spanned from the compact H175 through the H225, H225W, H250A, H250M, H280M4, and H330MV. The H225W is a wet-cutting horizontal band saw featuring a step-pulley drive, six selectable blade speeds ranging from 50 to 300 fpm, a swiveling vise, and an integrated coolant system for extended blade life on ferrous stock. The H250A steps up to fully automatic operation with powered roller bar feed, roller bearing blade guides, a hydraulic down-feed, and a parts counter, making it well suited to repetitive production cutting. Vertical band saws such as the 352, 502, V500, and 316H series rounded out the range for contour and profile work.

Startrite horizontal band saws found their way into general metalworking shops, steel fabrication and structural steel operations, tool rooms, maintenance departments, and educational institutions throughout the UK and, via Clausing distribution, across North America.
