About Used Dual & Quad Shaft Shredders
Dual shaft and quad shaft shredders use counter-rotating shafts with interlocking cutting elements for aggressive size reduction of difficult materials. Dual shaft shredders handle mixed waste, bulky items, and materials that would jam single shaft machines. Quad shaft shredders produce finer, more uniform output without the need for a screen.

How to Choose a Used Dual-Shaft Shredder
Before the granulator
A dual-shaft shredder tears bulky plastic, film bales, and purgings down so a granulator can finish them. The shafts turn slowly, with high torque, and they do not use a fine screen the way a granulator does. A quad-shaft machine adds a second pair and a screen for a tighter chip. A beside-the-press granulator will not start on a bale.
Shaft length and the motor torque are the capacity. A shredder that stalls on your bale is undersized, not in need of a sharper tooth.
What the cutters cost
Cutters and spacers wear and they are the rebuild. A machine with rounded teeth will push material instead of grabbing it. The gearbox and the coupling take the shock. Metal in the feed, if your stream has it, needs a stop or you will buy a gearbox.
Ask the last material. Tires, pallets, and film are different torque and different cutters.

What to Inspect on a Used Dual-Shaft Shredder
Look at the teeth
Sharp enough to grab. A polished round tooth will not start a bale.
Turn the shafts
Gearbox noise and a coupling that is already cracked.
Check the hopper
It has to take the piece you will feed. A ram, if there is one, has to cycle.
Name the material
Film, purgings, and rigid parts do not share a setup. Ask what it last ate.
