About Nissui

Japan

Nissui Kako, the Japanese plastics equipment manufacturer behind the Nissui granulator line, developed its S-Cutter technology in Japan and brought it to the North American market in 1988 through a partnership with U.S. distributor Don Maynard, at a time when screenless granulation was virtually unknown in the United States. The U.S. operation was formalized as Nissui Corporation, which served American customers through 2002 before transitioning to USNI Tech, LLC; parts and service support subsequently passed to Size Reduction Specialists (SRS Corp) of East Lansing, Michigan in 2008. All Nissui granulators were manufactured in Japan.

Nissui's flagship product is the S-Cutter screenless granulator, available across several series and configurations. The FNSK series — including the FNSK-04E, FNSK-04SC, and FNSK-15 variants — are compact, portable press-side units with S-cutter rotors, closed cutting chambers, and low rotor speeds suited to sprue and runner reclaim. The FNSR series shares the same screenless S-cutter design in a slightly different configuration. The ENSK series offers a similar press-side form factor. The SA series (SA24, SA26, SA32, SA33, SA34, SA35) are low-speed, screenless granulators in larger cabinet formats, while the SKN series provides higher-throughput slow-speed grinding with gear-reduced motors for heavier-duty applications.

Nissui granulators are purpose-built for injection molding operations, where they sit beside the press to reclaim sprues and runners in real time. Their quiet, low-RPM operation makes them well suited to clean-room-adjacent environments such as medical device manufacturing, consumer electronics, and precision automotive component molding. Packaging and general plastics processors also rely on Nissui machines for closed-loop regrind programs that reduce raw material waste.

Buyers seeking used Nissui granulators are drawn to the line's reputation for mechanical simplicity, durable Japanese construction, and low maintenance requirements. The screenless S-cutter design eliminates screen changes and reduces downtime, while the gear-reduced drive systems are known for long service life. Replacement blades remain available through SRS Corp and aftermarket suppliers, making it straightforward to return an older Nissui granulator to full working condition — a key reason these machines hold their value and continue to trade actively on the secondary market decades after production.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Nissui best known for in the plastics industry?

Nissui is best known for its S-Cutter screenless, low-speed granulators, which are designed to sit beside an injection molding press and reduce sprues and runners into uniform regrind. The machines were introduced to the North American market in 1988 and became a widely adopted standard for press-side size reduction.

What is the difference between Nissui FNSK and SA series granulators?

The Nissui FNSK series (including the FNSK-04E, FNSK-04SC, and FNSK-15 variants) are compact, portable press-side units with smaller cutting chambers suited to light sprue and runner reclaim directly at the injection press. The SA series granulators are larger-cabinet, low-speed screenless machines with bigger feed throats and higher throughput capacity, making them better suited to higher-volume or centralized regrind applications.

Are parts still available for used Nissui granulators?

Yes — replacement blades and service parts for Nissui granulators remain available through Size Reduction Specialists (SRS Corp), which took over exclusive parts and service support from USNI Tech (formerly Nissui Corporation) in 2008. Aftermarket blade suppliers such as Services For Plastics also stock rotor and bed blades for common Nissui models, making maintenance of used machines straightforward.
