About Used Plastics Robots & Automation

Plastics robots and automation systems improve production efficiency, part quality, and operator safety in injection molding, blow molding, and thermoforming operations. Used Wittmann robots, Yushin robots, Star Automation robots, and Sepro robots are the most common brands in the plastics industry. These SCARA and Cartesian robots handle part removal, insert loading, sprue cutting, and secondary operations.

Used robotic arms for sale include 3-axis, 5-axis, and 6-axis configurations from Fanuc, ABB, and other manufacturers for more complex automation tasks. Wittmann robot and Yushin robot systems are specifically designed for injection molding applications.

Meadoworks stocks used plastics robots and automation equipment from Wittmann, Yushin, Star Automation, Sepro, CBW, Fanuc, and ABB. Contact us at 800-323-0307.

Size a plastics robot to the press: the vertical stroke must clear the mold and reach the parts, the traverse must reach your drop-off or conveyor, and the payload must cover the part, sprue and end-of-arm tooling. Check the mounting pattern and the press interface (Euromap 12/67 or SPI) against your machine. When buying used, review the controller's program storage, the servo drives and cables, and the vacuum and gripper circuits.

How to Choose a Used Molding Takeout Robot

Picker, traverse, or arm

A sprue picker yanks a runner. A servo traverse robot pulls the part, waits for eject, and places it on a conveyor. A six-axis arm is for a path a traverse cannot draw. Most molding cells want the traverse.

Payload has to cover the part and the gripper. Vertical stroke has to clear the open mold. A robot that fit the last press will hit the tie bars on a different one.

The press has to speak to it

Euromap or SPI signals, the mold-open stroke, and the eject sequence. A robot with no interface cable for your press is a project, not a drop-in. Takeout time has to fit the cycle you are selling.

The gripper is often missing. Budget one, or the arm moves air.

Molding Takeout Robot Specs to Compare

Axes

Picker, three-axis traverse, or six-axis. The place you set the part picks it.

Payload (lb)

Part plus gripper. A nameplate without the tool is optimistic.

Vertical stroke (in)

Has to clear the mold and the drop. Measure the press.

Interface

The press signals. Without them the robot cannot enter on mold open.

What to Inspect on a Used Molding Takeout Robot

  • Home it

Every axis, to the stops. A servo fault on vertical is a robot that stays in the mold.

  • Measure stroke

Against the press you will hang it on, tie bars included.

  • Find the gripper

Or accept that you will build one.

  • Check the cable

Press interface. A cut plug is why it never cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a used plastics robot cost?

Used plastics robots range from $3,000-$10,000 for basic 3-axis sprue pickers to $10,000-$40,000 for 5-axis servo robots. Used 6-axis Fanuc and ABB robotic arms for sale range from $15,000-$60,000+. Wittmann robots and Yushin robots are the most sought-after brands for injection molding applications.

What is the difference between a sprue picker and a servo robot?

A sprue picker is a simple pneumatic arm that removes the sprue or runner. A servo robot moves on programmable axes to remove parts, place them in patterns, load inserts and feed downstream operations.

Will a used robot fit my injection molding machine?

Check the robot's stroke and payload against your mold and parts, the mounting pattern on your fixed platen, and the interface (Euromap 12/67 or SPI) — adapter plates and interface kits can bridge many differences.
