About Used Rotary Thermoformers

Rotary thermoforming machines feature a rotating carousel that indexes multiple forming stations through heating, forming, and unloading positions. This continuous-motion design provides high throughput for medium to heavy-gauge thermoforming applications. Rotary thermoformers are used for producing bathtubs, refrigerator liners, automotive interior panels, and large packaging.

Meadoworks stocks used rotary thermoforming machines from Brown Machine, GN Thermoforming, and other manufacturers. Contact us at 800-323-0307.

How to Choose a Used Rotary Thermoformer

Stations on a wheel

A rotary thermoformer indexes several stations through heat, form, and unload. One station heats while another forms, so the output is higher than a single shuttle doing the same part. Bathtubs, refrigerator liners, and large panels are the usual work. Thin-gauge cups are a roll-fed machine, not this one.

Station count and the sheet size are the capacity. A mold that does not fit the clamp frame will not form, no matter how many stations the wheel has.

Heat and index

Ovens have to bring a heavy sheet to forming temperature before the wheel moves. Cold centers leave a thick web. The index has to stop in the same place every cycle or the plug and the mold miss the sheet.

Forming is vacuum, pressure, or both. Read which one the station actually has before you quote a textured part.

Rotary Thermoformer Specs to Compare

Stations

Heat, form, and unload overlap. More stations are more output only if the oven keeps up.

Sheet size (in)

The clamp frame. Your blank has to fit, with room for the clamp.

Gauge (in)

Heavy gauge is this machine. Thin roll stock belongs on an inline former.

Index

Has to repeat. A wheel that drifts misplaces the mold.

What to Inspect on a Used Rotary Thermoformer

  • Index the wheel

Stop position at each station. Drift misses the plug.

  • Fire the ovens

Zones have to heat a full sheet, not only the edges.

  • Measure the frame

Against the mold and the sheet you will run.

  • Pull vacuum

Or pressure, if the station has it. A leaking platen will not form detail.

Common Applications

Bathtubs
Refrigerator liners
Large packaging
Automotive panels

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a rotary thermoformer?

A rotary thermoforming machine uses a rotating carousel with multiple stations — sheet loading, heating, forming, and unloading happen simultaneously at different positions. This provides higher throughput than shuttle machines for medium to heavy-gauge thermoforming.
