How to Choose a Used Wheel Blow Molding Machine
Many molds on one wheel
A wheel machine mounts a ring of molds on a rotating wheel and captures a continuous parison. Dairy, water, and household bottles at very high output are the job. The number of molds and the wheel speed are the rate. A shuttle machine with two molds will not be talked into this output.
The parison has to be continuous and stable. Head tooling, the extruder rate, and the wheel have to agree or you make flash and light bottles.
What fails on a used wheel
Molds, the wheel bearings, the clamp on each station, and the takeout. A wheel sold with half the molds empty is a fraction of the nameplate rate. Deflash and leak testing are often in line and are often missing from the sale.
These machines are large and they want a pit or a tall bay. Measure the building before you measure the bottle.

What to Inspect on a Used Wheel Blow Molding Machine
Count the molds
Empty stations are lost rate. Name how many complete mold sets are in the sale.
Turn the wheel
Bearings and the drive. A wheel that indexes hard will not hold a parison.
Watch the parison
If you can run it, the tube should be even before you blame the molds.
Measure the bay
Height and the pit. A wheel that does not fit the building is not a bottle line.
