About Used Extrusion Blow Molding Machines
Extrusion blow molding machines (also known as extrusion blow moulding machines) are the most common type of blow molding equipment. These machines extrude a hollow tube of molten plastic (parison), capture it in a mold, and inflate it with air to form the final shape. EBM machines produce HDPE bottles, industrial drums, automotive fuel tanks, toys, and countless other hollow plastic parts.
Used extrusion blow molding machines are available in continuous extrusion, accumulator head, and shuttle configurations. Continuous extrusion machines offer the highest production rates for small to medium containers. Accumulator head machines handle larger parts and heavier parisons. Look for features including parison programming (wall thickness control), view stripe capability, and multi-layer co-extrusion heads.
Meadoworks stocks used extrusion blow molding machines from Graham Engineering, Uniloy, Bekum, Kautex, Wilmington, Sterling, Magic, and Battenfeld Fischer. Contact us at 800-323-0307 for blow molding machine pricing and availability.
How to Choose a Used Extrusion Blow Molding Machine
Continuous, shuttle, or accumulator
Extrusion blow molding extrudes a parison, closes a mold on it, and blows. Continuous extrusion feeds small and medium bottles at a high rate, often with a shuttle or a wheel. An accumulator head stores a shot and drops a heavy parison for drums, tanks, and large parts. They are different machines. A bottle line will not become a drum machine because you slow it down.
Head tooling, the number of cavities, and parison programming are the process. Wall thickness control is what makes a bottle hold and a drum weigh what you quoted.
The mold and the trim
Clamp tonnage and platen size have to take your mold. Deflashing and takeout are how the bottle leaves. A machine without a working trim leaves a hand operation you should price. Resin is usually HDPE or PP for these machines. PET bottles are a stretch-blow process, not this one.
Ask the shot or the head size, the cavitation, and what bottle it last ran.
Extrusion Blow Molding Machine Specs to Compare
| Spec | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Head type | Continuous for bottles. Accumulator for a heavy parison. Do not guess from the clamp alone. |
| Cavities | Rate is cavities times the cycle. A single-head machine will not hit a wheel's output. |
| Clamp (tons) | Has to hold the mold and the blow pressure. Large parts need the platen as much as the tons. |
| Parison programming | Points of wall-thickness control. Without it, a shaped bottle is a heavy bottle. |

What to Inspect on a Used Extrusion Blow Molding Machine
Name the head
Continuous, shuttle, or accumulator. The rest of the inspection follows that.
Look at the die and pin
Wear here is the parison. Nicks and an off-center pin are a bad wall.
Cycle the clamp
Guides, the toggle or the cylinders, and whether both platens meet square.
Check trim and takeout
Knives, the deflash, and the conveyor. A missing trim is labor.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is extrusion blow molding?
Extrusion blow molding (EBM) extrudes a hollow tube of molten plastic (called a parison) that drops into a two-piece mold. The mold closes around the parison and compressed air inflates it to match the mold shape. After cooling, the mold opens and the part is ejected. EBM is the most common blow molding process for producing hollow plastic containers.
How much does a used extrusion blow molding machine cost?
Used extrusion blow molding machine prices range from $25,000 for small single-head machines to $500,000+ for large multi-head accumulator systems. Pricing depends on head count, shot size, clamp tonnage, parison programming capability, brand, and condition. Graham, Uniloy, and Bekum machines hold value well in the used market.
