About Used Foam Injection Molding Machines
Foam injection molding machines produce lightweight plastic parts by introducing a foaming agent (chemical or physical) into the melt, creating a cellular core structure surrounded by a solid skin. This technology (including foam injection machine, structural foam, and MuCell microcellular foaming) reduces material usage, part weight, and cycle times while maintaining structural integrity.
MuCell technology, licensed by Trexel, uses supercritical nitrogen or CO2 to create a microcellular foam structure with uniform, microscopic cells. This process reduces part weight by 10-20%, eliminates sink marks, reduces clamp force requirements, and improves dimensional stability. Structural foam molding uses a larger cell structure for very thick-walled, lightweight parts.
Meadoworks stocks used foam injection molding machines from Engel, Krauss Maffei, and Milacron, including machines equipped with MuCell/Trexel technology. Contact us at 800-323-0307.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is foam injection molding?
Foam injection molding introduces a foaming agent into the plastic melt to create a cellular structure inside the part. The result is a lighter part with a solid outer skin and foamed core. MuCell microcellular foaming creates very fine, uniform cells for 10-20% weight reduction with minimal impact on mechanical properties. Structural foam molding creates thicker-walled parts with larger cells.
